The Breakfast Club Personality Analysis
Cory Herbst
The character of John Bender can be described basically as someone who has the mindset of a criminal. He is constantly needing attention, and is consistently seen being lazy and sloppy in general. He is an extremely good arguer, however, he is easy to anger, seen many times during the film having explosive attacks at the other characters. He is also dynamic and complex, in the sense that he is willing to help others by using himself as a distraction, yet he loves to insult others, pointing out their flaws.
When attempting to analyze the personality of John Bender from a Psychoanalytic perspective, it can be seen that his underlying unconscious forces help to influence his thoughts and actions. For example, when he sees Claire put lipstick on in a salacious way, he becomes upset. There is no reason to suggest, at the present time, why he is angry or why his outburst is so extreme. However, his unconscious mind could have some objection to this and therefore would be affecting his current feelings and thoughts towards this.
If one were to analyze John Bender from a Humanistic Perspective, it may be concluded that he is using his internal experiences and feelings to interpret his feeling of self worth. For example, when John is explaining his home life (in a comical mannjavascript:void(0)er), he shows how he bosses people around and how he feels all-important. This would allow one to conclude that John's feelings of his self worth is very high, contributing to his outgoing personality and his almost cocky attitude. The internal feelings of his high value of self worth would also explain how he is constantly outgoing and attention seeking, as if he desires the attention.
When attempting to analyze the personality of John Bender from a Cognitive/Social perspective, it becomes clear that he is using his past experiences as a means of interpreting the world. When explaining what he got for Christmas, he seems to have a downward look upon his life and uses that to interpret others. He begins to judge Claire for basically being spoiled and well-off, basing her life off of his because he is interpreting that she is receiving more than what is common (in his mind). This could be the probable explanation for why he is constantly judging others based off of what he feels to be the norm, but what is actually his own personal experience of life.
If one were to analyze John Bender's personality from a Trait Perspective, they would most likely conclude that he is a basic rebel type. He is constantly disobeying authority and attempting to impress others with his comical nature. These would suggest that he has a very stable a consistent personality of being the rebel and not really caring to much about it either.
When attempting to analyze the personality of John Bender from a Biological perspective, it can be assumed that his personality is derived from the personality of his father, biologically. When making fun of Bryan for his home life, John transfers into his own, where he unintentionally describes how his father is someone aggressive and strong headed. One would then use this to conclude that John Bender's personality of being a cocky rebel is derived from his father's aggressive personality, all to do with the inherited biological factors.

Our planet is more than capable of being able to sustain a certain number of human lives, however, due to the damage that we are doing to the environment, the Earth may no longer be able to do so. Excess amounts of carbon dioxide and other pollutants that are being produced by transport, factories, farming and various other industries is causing a harmful effect on the atmosphere and adding to climate changes. These changes could very well disrupt plant cycles and create non-fertile land where there once was, lowering the global production of food and causing a horrible pandemic of famine that could very well stretch around the globe.
If populations were to continue to expand, this could very well cause an increase in pollutants that would enter the atmosphere. This would add to the depletion of the ozone layer and addition of Carbon dioxide (and other similar chemicals) which would essentially allow in harmful Uv Rays into earth and trap in additional heat, following the main issues of global warming and climate change. Now, this could have a harmful effect on plant cycles which depend upon specific conditions in order to thrive. If such plant's cycle's as wheat, any basic fruit/vegetable or staple food is disrupted and dies out, then the world would begin to see a shortage of food and therefore a begining of famine.

In one's opinion, one would have to state that Leonardo was the better Renaissance man, this being due to his vast curiosity and his constant flow of ideas. Michelangelo was very influential at this time with his artworks, however, Leonardo would surpass him ever so slightly. This being true with their knowledge of human anatomy, where both would study corpses, defying the church itself, all in the name of furthering their works. Leonardo, however, was able to show in very detailed work, the complexity of the human body using his technique of painting the bodies from the bones outwards, showing his deep knowledge of anatomy. Leonardo was also constantly unable to finish many of his works, due to his curiosity which would give him amazing ideas to which he would write down and possibly sketch. Whereas Michelangelo had no problem finishing his works for his ideas were mainly confined to his artworks. Leonardo also furthered his study of anatomy by bring corpses into his workshop where he could study them further. He was able to rationalize his actions and be able to go against the church's wishes because he was not religious, a major contributor to the renaissance. He was able to question their ideas, but he was still found out and went to court under the criminal act of worshiping the dead.
Michelangelo was very skilled in the various art forms, however, he preferred to work with stone. This may be due to his early infatuation with stone, where he would spend most of his days with the stone cutter. Although, when he was an experienced artist, he would state that he could sense his subjects were trapped within the stone and that he would release them. This gave his stone work a very unique style to it and gave rise to his preference of working materials. Michelangelo had also spent a very lengthy time working on one of his most famed pieces, David, which may have very well given him the confidence/enthusiasm to continue working with stone.
Leonardo was a very curious person; this often lead to repercussions pertaining to his artworks. He would be able to create an outstanding piece of work that would leave a person in awe, yet his curiosity often got the better of him. He had a lust after engineering and often sketched down ideas that brought him further away from any art that would have been working on. This was aided by his various humiliations in court over certain allegations such as worshiping the dead, which brought him even further away from his works. However, the main contributor to his incapability to finish his works was his absent mind that would find a number of things interesting at once and would drag his attention away from his work.
Michelangelo and Leonardo had similar aspects to their paintings, however, they did not follow exactly the same style, due to different attempts at approaching their work. Leonardo would approach his paintings in a fashion that would express the bones of the subject first and then worked around that. This gave his artwork a very realistic quality to it and showed his extensive knowledge of anatomy. However, Michelangelo's works had a way of expressing his internal struggles and often showed in his painting suffering, for that is what he believed art to be. Michelangelo was also capable of finishing his paintings due to his concentration, whereas Leonardo was unable to due his curiosity, which would often lead him away from what he was doing, leaving unfinished works.
Leonardo was under the impression that nature was the wisest teacher along with his ever curious mind gives rise to his Renaissance style of thinking, outside of the church ideal. Michelangelo was very much so a Renaissance man due to his restless mind that kept exploring until the end of his life. Michelangelo and Leonardo also took part in the study of anatomy therefore adding to their already extensive Renaissance style of thinking and interpretations. However, Michelangelo was still somewhat religious and had a growing spiritual awareness, whereas Leonardo was not, so Leonardo can still be seen as more of a Renaissance man. To Michelangelo, art was suffering and a way for him to express his internal struggle of his past humiliations, this contradicted Leonardo's calm and quiet approach to art through the expression of human forms. Leonardo would show humans in his paintings from the bones outward, expressing great detail. Whereas Michelangelo would show his sculptures as if they were attempting to escape from the stone that they were encased in.
